65 77 016 Removing and installing/replacing airbag control unit (Cooper Convertible)

Failure to observe correct procedures can deploy the airbag and cause injuries.

Attention! 

Read and comply with NOTES on protection against electrostatic damage (ESD protection).

Preliminary work needed: 

• Disconnect BATTERY GROUND LEAD.
• Remove CENTER CONSOLE .

Removal: 

Detach cable clip (1).

Release nut (2) and screw (3).

Take off holder (4).

Unscrew nuts (1).

Unlock plug connections (2) and disconnect.

Remove airbag control unit (3).

Installation: 

Position airbag control unit (3).

Tighten down nuts (1).

Tightening torque 65 77 1AZ .

Join and lock plug connections (2).

Position holder (4).

Tighten nut (2) and bolt (3).

Attach cable clip (1).

Required follow-up work: 

• Install CENTER CONSOLE .
• Connect BATTERY GROUND LEAD.
• Run the service function to adjust the sensors for the driving dynamics as follows: 

• Chassis
• Traction control system
• Adjustment of the driving dynamics sensors

Replacement: 

Carry out PROGRAMMING/CODING .
