Replacing wheel bearing (wheel hub) for front wheel (Cooper Convertible)
Preliminary work needed:
- Remove front WHEEL .
Removal:
If necessary, lever off protective cap (1).
Gasket (1) is no longer installed.
Release collar screw (1), press brake pedal to floor for this purpose.
- Remove BRAKE DISC .
Unscrew the screws (1).
Remove wheel bearing.
Installation:
Installation note:
- Keep contact surface (2) of wheel bearing (1) and swivel bearing clean and free from grease.
Attention!
Consider the assignment of wheel bearing - collar screw! It is possible that wheel bearing with thread M12x1.5 or M12x1.25 has been installed.
Replace screws (1).
Parts : Screws
Tighten down screws (1).
Tightening torque 31 21 1AZ .
- Install BRAKE DISC .
- Pay attention to installation position of compression spring (2).
- Keep collar screw (1) and spur gearing of wheel bearing/output shaft clean and free of grease
Attention!
Following installation note for spur gearing must be observed without fail!
Replace collar screw (1) and compression spring.
Part : Collar screw, compression spring
Tighten collar screw (1) and compression spring manually.
- Front gearing of wheel bearing (1) and output shaft (2) should be installed form-fit (tooth in tooth position)!
Check whether spur gearing is locked tooth in tooth by reciprocally rotating wheel hub/output shaft.
Tighten the collar screw once positive locking has been ensured.
Tightening torque 31 60 2AZ .
Required follow-up work:
- Install front WHEEL .
