Removing and installing/replacing eccentric shaft (B48 and B46 engine) (Cooper S and John Cooper Works)

Special tools required: 

• 11 4 480

Preliminary work needed: 

• Remove INTERMEDIATE LEVER .
• Remove INTAKE CAMSHAFT .
• Remove SERVOMOTOR FOR ECCENTRIC SHAFT .

Removal: 

Release screws (1).

Set down the bearing cap neatly in special tool 11 4 480.

Release all screws (2) evenly.

Set down all bearing brackets neatly in special tool 11 4 480.

Remove intermediate shaft (1) from cylinder head.

Installation: 

Check all needle bearings (1) of eccentric shaft (2) for ease of movement.

Clean all bearing positions (1) and coat with motor oil.

Before assembly of the eccentric shaft shift the needle bearing (1) in the direction of the arrow up to the stop.

Oil the needle bearings of eccentric shaft (1).

Mount eccentric shaft on cylinder head.

Mount bearing shell (2) and bearing brackets (3) on cylinder head.

The bearing cap (1) is provided with a stop.

Tighten all screws (1 and 2) evenly.

Tightening torque 11 37 3AZ .

Required follow-up work: 

• Install SERVOMOTOR FOR ECCENTRIC SHAFT .
• Install INTAKE CAMSHAFT .
• Install INTERMEDIATE LEVER .
