Removing and installing/replacing both VANOS actuators (B48 and B46 engine) (Cooper S and John Cooper Works)

Special tools required: 

• 2 360 895

Preliminary work needed: 

• Remove ACOUSTIC COVER .
• Remove AIR INTAKE SILENCER HOUSING .

Removal: 

Release clamp (1).

Remove the clean air pipe (2).

Unlock the cable routing (1) and detach it from the cylinder head cover in upward direction.

Release and detach the connector (1) for the actuator inlet.

Release and detach connector (2) for actuator outlet.

Turn the actuator intake (1) using special tool 2 360 895 through approx. 50° in arrow direction then remove.

Turn the actuator outlet (1) using special tool 2 360 895 through approx. 50° in arrow direction then remove.

Installation: 

Position the actuator outlet (1) and turn using special tool 2 360 895 in arrow direction until the stop rests against the clamp.

Position the actuator inlet (1) and turn using special tool 2 360 895 in arrow direction until the stop rests against the clamp.

Connect the actuator inlet connector (1).

Connect the actuator outlet connector (2).

Clip the cable routing (1) into the cylinder head cover from above.

Install the clean air pipe (2).

Connect the clamp (1).

Required follow-up work: 

• Install AIR INTAKE SILENCER HOUSING .
• Install ACOUSTIC COVER .
• Check engine operation and check for leak tightness
