Replacing front crankshaft seal (B48 and B46 engine) (Cooper S and John Cooper Works)
Special tools required:
- 2 298 505
- 11 8 801
- 11 8 802
- 11 8 803
- 11 8 804
Preliminary work needed:
- Remove VIBRATION DAMPER .
Removal:
Drive in the crankshaft seal (1) by approx. 1 cm in the marked area by using a punch.
Use special tool 2 298 505 to lift out the crankshaft seal (1).
Do not scratch sealing surface against engine block.
Installation:
Clean special tool 11 8 801 and coat with fresh motor oil.
Fasten special tool 11 8 801 with 11 8 802 on the crankshaft.
IMPORTANT:
Touching the sealing lip (on the inside) of the crankshaft seal is not permitted.
Coating the outside of the crankshaft seal with oil is not permitted.
Coating the outside of the crankshaft seal with oil is not permitted.
Push the crankshaft seal (1), carefully and precisely, with a rotational movement onto the special tool 11 8 801 until it lies against the crankcase.
Suck in the crankshaft seal using special tool 11 8 803 and 11 8 804.
Screw in special tool 11 8 803 until it is flush with the crankcase.
Required follow-up work:
- Install VIBRATION DAMPER .
- Check engine for leak tightness
