REP-TAT-P-5434-01 Remove soft top
Prerequisite
- Rear left and right SIDE TRIM PANELS .
For additional information see: OPENING/CLOSING THE CONVERTIBLE TOP IN EVENT OF A TECHNICAL FAULT .
- Tape rear left and right side panels with adhesive tape (1).
- Detach left and right retaining clips (1).
- Detach convertible top fabric from left and right bolts.
- Unlock plug connection (1) and disconnect.
- Unclip the connector (2) from the convertible top brace (3).
- Secure the wiring harness (1) with adhesive tape (2) on the convertible top brace (3).
This prevents it from getting caught in the future.
- Lever out cover cap (1) on the left and right.
- Release and remove the screw (1) on the left and right.
- Lock the left and right convertible top brace locking levers (1).
- Open the soft top completely.
- Open the left and right convertible top brace locking levers (1).
- Unlock and disconnect plug connections (1).
- Unclip the connector (2).
- Unlock and disconnect plug connections (1).
- Feed associated wiring harness back in.
- Slacken nuts (1) on left and right by approx. 2 turns.
- Release and remove the screw (2) on the left and right.
- Fix the convertible top in place with two luggage straps.

Lifting harness 54 3 240 consists of the following separate components:
54 3 241 Longitudinal tube with lifting eyelet and bolts
54 3 243 Transverse bar
54 3 243 Holder left and right
54 3 250 Adapter with chain and hook left and right
54 3 260 Adapter with counter support left and right
54 3 270 Shaped part for counter support on the left and right

- Screw special tool (shaped part) 0 496 454 (54 3 270)
ion the adapter using the special tool (counter support) 0 496 451 (54 3 260)
, left and right.
- Adjust special tool (peg) 0 496 445 (54 3 243)
, left and right, in the fifth hole (arrow) measured from inside on the special tool (cross strut) 0 496 444 (54 3 242).
From the inside three holes are visible on the cross strut.
- Secure special tool (peg) 0 496 445 (54 3 243)
with the locking bolt.
- Adjust the left and right adapter with the special tool (chain) 0 496 324 (54 3 250) with the last peg hole on the inside.
- Secure the adapter with the locking bolt.
- Adjust the left and right adapter with the special tool (counter support) 0 496 451 (54 3 260) with the third peg hole on the outside.
- Secure the adapter with the locking bolt.
- Adjust the left and right threaded rod (1) to dimension (X).
Dimension (X) = 130 m
- Adjust the lifting eye in the fourth hole (arrow) from the rear on the longitudinal pipe.
From the rear, two holes are visible on the longitudinal pipe.
- Secure the lifting eye using the locking bolt.
- Only use the lifting gear in conjunction with the BMW workshop crane WJN.10 (special lifting beam with a beam length of 1690 mm - see the applicable BMW Workshop Equipment Catalog) - or a crane with comparable specifications.
Heavy component.
Heavy components can lead to injury or damage.
- Remove and install heavy components with the aid of another person/other persons.
- Position the lifting gear above the convertible top.
- Attach the hooks (1) to the main bearings on the left and right.
- Place a shaped part (2) on the left and right main bearings.
- Carefully tension lifting gear and ensure the hooks (1) and shaped parts (2) are positioned correctly.
- Raise convertible top slightly.
The main bearings need to thread out of the threaded bolts in the process (arrows).
- Continue to lift the convertible top, threading out the drive cables in the process. Make sure that the convertible top drives are not damaged.
- Completely lift the convertible top out of the car.
