The following notes form the basis for these repair instructions and must be adhered to at all times:
- General instructions on window bonding:
- See SAFETY AT WORK
- See INFORMATION ON VEHICLE PROTECTION
Removal is performed with ROLL OUT 2000 .
The following new parts/CONSUMABLES are required (sourcing reference BMW Parts Department).
| Material | Quantity |
|---|---|
| Rear window (with replacement) | 1 |
| Spacer buffers (9 808 459) | 4 |

Necessary preliminary work:
- Remove REAR SPOILER
- Remove REAR WINDOW WIPER MOTOR
- Remove LOWER COVER ON REAR WINDOW
Secure cable to rear window with adhesive tape.
Attention!
When reusing the rear window:
Avoid damaging wires for heated rear window/aerial.
Tape off body in area of piercing point with fabric adhesive tape (risk of damage).
Push wire from ROLL OUT 2000 at line (1) through adhesive bead.
For details on how to proceed, refer to: WINDOW REMOVAL WITH ROLL OUT 2000 .
Because of the window geometry and adhesive strength, make sure that the cutting wire is always at an acute angle to the adhesive bead.
If necessary, reposition the suction cup several times that is used as the deflection point.
Fitting spacer buffers (spacers):
Spacer buffers are installed to avoid rear window breakage.
Completely remove damaged spacer buffers (1 and 2).
Bond new spacer buffers (1) within the tabs.
Affix spacer buffers (2) to the tailgate on the left and right.
Spacer buffers (2) must not extend over sheet metal edge.
Overview of rear window bonding:
1 = adhesive bead joint
2 = mark on ceramic layer (position of adhesive bead)
3 = Plug connections (diversity aerial, heated rear window)
A mark (2) is printed on the ceramic (two dashed lines) to mark the position of the adhesive bead. The adhesive bead must be applied centered on the mark (2).
Do not allow any adhesive to come into contact with the connecting contacts of the heated rear window/aerial.
| Cut | A - A |
|---|---|
| a [mm] = Position of the adhesive bead | specified with mark (2) |
| b [mm] = Width adhesive bead | 7 ±1* |
| h [mm] = Height adhesive bead | 11 ±2* |
| * Corresponds to nozzle C (standard adhesive bead) | |
Make sure tailgate is fully closed.
Carefully working on rear window with SIPHON :
- position at bottom on tailgate
- Align sides evenly
- insert at top and press down
- secure vertically with yellow plastic adhesive tape
