Removing and installing/replacing the oxygen sensor monitor (B48 and B46 engine) (Cooper S and John Cooper Works)
Special tools required:
- 11 7 020
The cable of the oxygen sensor monitor (1) is gray.
The installation location of the oxygen sensor monitor is behind the catalytic converter.
Only perform these tasks after exhaust system has cooled down.
Attention!
Damage to wires when disconnecting connectors and plug connections.
Sheared wires can cause a short circuit.
Do not pull on cables when disconnecting connectors and plug connections.
Preliminary work needed:
- Remove CLEAN AIR PIPE .
Removal:
Unclip connector (1) of the oxygen sensor monitor from bracket.
Unlock and disconnect connector (1) of the oxygen sensor monitor.
Release cable of the oxygen sensor monitor from holder inside the marked area.
Slightly bend up heat protection film (1).
Release oxygen sensor monitor (2) with special tool 11 7 020.
Installation:
Installation note:
If an oxygen sensor is reused, thinly and evenly coat only the thread with NEVER-SEEZ compound OVERVIEW OF CONSUMABLES 4.3 .
The part of the oxygen control sensor which projects into the exhaust line (sensor ceramic) must not be cleaned or come into contact with lubricant.
Screw in oxygen sensor monitor (2) and tighten with special tool 11 7 020.
Tightening torque: 11 78 1AZ .
Properly install heat protection film (1).
Connect connector (1) of the oxygen sensor monitor and clip in bracket.
Clip in cable of the oxygen sensor monitor on holder inside the marked area.
Required follow-up work:
- Install CLEAN AIR PIPE .
- Check function of DME.
