51 36 070 Removing and installing/replacing left or right rear side window

Special tools required:

2 336 541

IMPORTANT: Follow GENERAL PROCEDURE for dismantling/installing bonded window glass

Removal is performed with ROLL OUT 2000 .

The following new parts/CONSUMABLES are required (sourcing reference BMW Parts Department).

Necessary preliminary tasks:

Remove TRIM PANEL FOR DOOR POST .
Remove TRIM PANEL FOR ROOF PILLAR AT REAR (C-pillar)
Remove the BOTTOM STRIP ON THE SIDE WINDOW
Remove THE COVER FROM THE REAR DOOR PILLAR

Pull the gasket (1) out.

NOTE: The gasket (1) is secured to the side window with double-sided adhesive tape in area (A).

Break-through point for the wire:

Tape off body in area of piercing point (1) with fabric adhesive tape (risk of damage).

Slide the wire from ROLL OUT 2000 with special tool 2 336 541 to the piercing points (1) from the outside through the adhesive bead.

Cut the side window out:

Position the suction lifter with double- thread (1) and wire (2) as shown.

Secure the side window against falling off.

A positioning pin is located in area (A). Cut this area last (see next operation).

Cut through the adhesive bead while protecting the roofliner and side trim panel from damage with a plastic guard.

NOTE: Cuts in this area must be made last so that the positioning pin (1) is not disconnected when the side window is used again.

Cut through the adhesive bead until both wire ends (2) are at the upper corner of the B-pillar.

Carefully continue to twist the wire ends (2) open further until the adhesive bead is completely cut through and the wire hangs on positioning pin (1).

Remove side window.

Installation of Dual Lock tapes/spacer buffer:

Remove the damaged Dual Lock tapes (1) and spacer buffer (2) and clean bonding surface.

Apply new Dual Lock tape (1) on the marks on the body area.

Glue new spacer buffers (2) to the bottom of the B-pillar.

Overview for side window bonding:

Attach THE COVER ON THE REAR DOOR PILLAR .

Attach the bracket on the rear side window.

For reusing the side window:

Remove the damaged Dual Lock tape (2). Clean bonding surface and stick on new dual-lock tapes (2).

Apply bead joint in area (1).

Insert the side window:

First, position the side window with the positioning pin (1).

Next, position the side window on the side wall and align the back parallel to the cover (2).

Engage side window in Dual Lock tape.

Fix side window in position with yellow plastic adhesive tape (sourcing reference: BMW Parts Department).

For side windows without positioning pin:

Position the side window according to dimension (x and y).

x = 4 ± 1.5 mm (side window to B-pillar cover)

x = 2 ± 1 mm (side window to C-pillar cover)

The gasket (3) must be in the back in line with the roof.
