41 12 557 Replacing Luggage Compartment Floor, Middle Section (Tail Panel Removed)

Observe procedures for (REPAIR STAGE 3) !

STRIP DOWN VEHICLE 

Use only approved SPOT-WELDING APPARATUS  for repairs.

Following new body parts are required (refer to BMW ELECTRONIC PARTS CATALOGUE ):

Following CONSUMABLES  are required:

Blind rivets N3 53
Blind rivets N1 4
EMC screws 2
Cleaning agent R1 1
Sealant D1  

Removal of luggage compartment floor 

Operation described predominantly on the left side. Right side identical.

View from below.

Open welded connections in areas (1).

Mark severance cut (1) in accordance with dimension a and cut.

IMPORTANT: Cut outer panel only.

Measurement a = 20 mm

Mark severance cuts (2) at component edge and cut.

Open welded connections in areas (3).

Remove trunk floor.

NOTE: The new part is installed overlapping in the areas of the severance cuts.

New part preparation 

Mark new luggage compartment floor part in accordance with severance cuts on vehicle + 15 mm extra material and cut.

Flatten stampings (1) on both sides.

Set down new part in the areas of the overlap.

Adjust luggage compartment well in combination with cross member and tail panel to fit and secure.

In areas (1) to (3), set 4.2 mm dia. holes for blind rivets.

In areas (1) and (2) set 4.2 mm dia. holes for blind rivets.

In areas (1) and (2) set holes for blind rivets.

Area (1): 2 bore holes with dia. 6.8 mm  for blind rivets N1  .

Areas (2): in each case 4 bore holes with dia. 4.2 mm  for blind rivets N3  .

Prepare new parts for MAG welding in areas (3).

Remove new parts and deburr bore holes.

IMPORTANT: Do not grind new parts and body in area of bonding surfaces.

Installation of luggage compartment floor 

Clean all  bonding surfaces with cleaning agent R1.

Apply adhesive to bonding surfaces.

Install new parts and rivet with blind rivets.

Weld new parts in areas (1).

IMPORTANT: Risk of damage!
Avoid applying excessive heat to the neighboring adhesive areas!

After hardening of the adhesive install 2 EMC SCREWS  in the areas (1).
