54 34 195 Removing and installing/replacing gas pressure spring on left or right main bearing
Special tools required:
Necessary preliminary tasks:
Before installation, grease ball socket if necessary.
Installation note:
Pack grease into two opposite positions in socket.
The grease spreads after installation on the ball pin all round in the ball socket.
Dismantling/installing ball sockets:
- Push on clamp in direction of groove with screwdriver
- Lift off ball socket from ball pin
- Slide clamp back
- Fit ball socket on ball stud and snap into place with force
Remove ball socket (1) from gas pressure spring at top and bottom.
Soft top closed.
Slide clamp (1) to end of gas pressure spring and lever out gas pressure spring.
Repeat process at other end of gas pressure spring.
Installation note:
Check that retaining spring is fitted correctly and replace if necessary.
Installation note:
Position special tool 54 0 210 at both ends of gas pressure spring (1).
Apply tightening force to screw (2) to adjust length of gas pressure spring.
Position gas pressure spring with ball sockets on ball pin and engage with force.
Slide back clamps.
The tension in the gas pressure spring can be completely relieved by releasing screw (2).
Always replace gas pressure springs in pairs.
Repeat procedure on right-hand side of car.
