51 71 265 Remove and fit (replace) the spoiler trim panel of the rear spoiler

Removal: 

Extend rear spoiler (1).

Undo water drain channel (2) on the left and right.

Retract rear spoiler (1).

Remove TAILGATE TRIM .

Undo screws (1) and remove spoiler trim panel.

Installation: 

Height dimension settings: 

NOTE: For purposes of clarity, the rear spoiler is extended.:

Place spoiler trim panel (1) on the hinge (2).

Ensure sleeves (3) are correctly positioned.

Check the HEIGHT DIMENSIONS of the spoiler trim panel (1) and if necessary correct by twisting the adjusting element (4).

Setting for the all-round gap dimension: 

Position the spoiler trim panel (1) with equal, all-round gap dimensions in relation to the tailgate (2) and affix using yellow plastic adhesive tape.

IMPORTANT: This operation requires two assistants.

Carefully open the tailgate.

Firmly press the spoiler trim panel onto the hinges by the contact points to prevent the adjusting elements from also rotating while tightening the screws (1).

Tighten down screws (1).

Remove plastic adhesive tape.

Check all-round gap dimension between spoiler trim panel and tailgate, if necessary correct (according to "setting the all-round gap dimension" work instruction).

Check the height dimensions, if necessary correct (according to the next operation).

Expand the rear spoiler.

IMPORTANT: In order not to change the all-round gap dimension, undo only one screw (2) to finely adjust the height dimensions.

Carefully undo sleeve (1) at the hinge.

Undo specific screw (2).

Correct the height dimensions by twisting the adjusting element (3).

Tighten screws (2) and apply sleeve (1).

Ensure sleeve (1) is correctly positioned.

Retract rear spoiler and check height dimensions, if necessary repeat operation.

Reassemble the vehicle.

Replacement: 

Install new adjusting elements (1) and rubber buffers (2).

To facilitate installation, moisten rubber buffers (1) with water.
