33 33 001 Replacing Left Or Right Rear Axle Carrier Tension Strut

IMPORTANT: Observe safety instructions when raising the vehicle
Driving without  compression struts is not permitted!
Risk of damage!
The rear axle carrier must be supported at the front is both tension struts have to be replaced!

Necessary preliminary tasks: 

Release screw (1).

Tightening torque 33 32 28AZ  . See REAR AXLE - TIGHTENING TORQUES .

Remove heat shield (2) from clip (3) on fuel tank retaining strap.

Installation: 

Check clip (3) for damage and replace if necessary.

Release screws (1).

Tightening torque 33 32 17AZ  . See REAR AXLE - TIGHTENING TORQUES .

Release screw (2) and remove tension strut (3).

Secure rear axle carrier by inserting screw (2).

Installation: 

Check threads for damage; if necessary, repair with Heli-coil thread inserts.

Tightening torque 33 33 3AZ  . See REAR AXLE - TIGHTENING TORQUES .
