51 23 265 Removing and installing/replacing left or right gas strut for engine compartment lid

WARNING: Danger of injury!
Use suitable tool to support engine compartment lid in the fully opened position.

Removal:

Make a written record of the installation position of the gas struts before removing.

If necessary, release cable clip on gas strut (2).

Slide retaining spring (1) to end of gas strut (2) and lift off gas strut (2) from ball head.

Repeat procedure at other end of gas strut (2).

Installation:

Slide retaining spring (1) back into initial position.

Press the gas strut (2) onto the ball pins on the vehicle at the top and bottom end.

Gas strut (2) must be felt to engage.
