26 11 000 Removing and Installing Complete Propeller Shaft
Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Remove exhaust system. See 18 00 020 REMOVING AND INSTALLING COMPLETE EXHAUST SYSTEM (N62TU)
- Remove heat shields and transmission underbody protection. See 24 00 023 REMOVING AND INSTALLING AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION (6HP26Z/6HP32Z)
- Support transmission from underneath. See 24 00 023 REMOVING AND INSTALLING AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION (6HP26Z/6HP32Z)
- Remove transmission cross-member.
Unfasten screws.
Installation:
Replace self-locking nuts.
All except N62/M67:
The screw without washer may only be tightened by means of the nut.
The screw with rolled-on washer which has ribbed teeth facing the support side must be tightened by means of the screw.
Observe different tightening torques.
Tightening torque: 26 11 1AZ . See 26 11 PROPELLER SHAFT COMPLETE
Unscrew nuts.
Installation:
Tightening torque: 26 11 4AZ . See 26 11 PROPELLER SHAFT COMPLETE
With a screwdriver, press constant-velocity joint (at the disassembly grooves) off input flange.
Brace propeller shaft on center mount and loosen nuts.
Installation:
Tightening torque: 26 11 6AZ . See 26 11 PROPELLER SHAFT COMPLETE
Bend propeller shaft downwards on center bearing.
Remove propeller shaft from transmission output flange and remove constant-velocity joint from final drive.
Installation:
- Pull out constant-velocity joint (1) up to stop.
- Use new nuts.
- Attach propeller shaft with constant-velocity joint pulled apart to drive flange of final drive.
- Alternately tighten 2 opposing nuts to draw constant - velocity joint evenly into the input flange.
- Tighten down nuts, tightening torque: 26 11 4AZ . See 26 11 PROPELLER SHAFT COMPLETE
Installation:
- Check centering (4), replace damaged centering . See 26 11 090 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING CENTERING MOUNT FOR PROPELLER SHAFT
- Grease centering (for grease, refer to DRIVE SHAFT - OPERATING FLUIDS ).
