32 11 100 Replacing gaiter for steering box on left or right

IMPORTANT: The steering box must be replaced if the polished surface of the rack is damaged (e.g. corrosion).

Necessary preliminary tasks:

Clean track rod.

Release EAR CLIP (1).

Installation note:

Clean rack and check surface for damage (e.g. by corrosion).

Grease rack (specified grease: Calypsol SF-3-131-TMM 3, BMW part number 83 23 9 407 857).

Release ear clip (1).

Release band clamp (1) and detach gaiter (2) from track rod.

Installation note:

Clean track rod and apply grease to taper.

Grease track rod at the fit of the gaiter (1) with grease "FB-1" (BMW part number 2 208 093).

NOTE: This ensures that the gaiter is not rotated when the track rod is rotated.
