41 11 720 Replacing Rear Left Side Member (Partial Replacement, Rear Panel And Side Panel At Rear Left Removed)

Refer to relevant service information in BODY, GENERAL .

Use only approved SPOT-WELDING APPARATUS  for repairs.

Remove or cover those vehicle components in the repair area which are susceptible to heat or dust.

Place vehicle on straightening bench.

The following new body parts are required:

• (1) Rear axle carrier
• (2) Cover, rear axle carrier
• (3) Reinforcement, floor pan

Mark severance cut in accordance with measurement a and cut.

Distance a = approx. 50 mm from rear screwing point of support bearing.

Mark severance cut in accordance with measurement a and cut.

Distance a = approx. 120 mm from cross-member, luggage compartment floor.

Open weld joints in areas (1).

Installation: 

On account of reinforcement plate to be welded, new part consists in event of repair of 2 separate parts.

Mark new part in accordance with previous severance cut and cut.

Installation: 

Adjust new part (1) to fit with straightening attachment or universal mount (2).

Weld in reinforcement plate  (3) at severance cut.

Also weld joint through rear chassis member reinforcing plate (4) from inside.

Installation: 

Mark new rear outer chassis rail part according to distance a and cut.

Distance a = approx. 235 mm behind bore dia. 10 mm.

Weld in reinforcement plate  at severance cut.

Installation: 

Fit new part (1).

Weld area (2).
