21 21 500 Removing and installing or replacing clutch

Necessary preliminary tasks:

TRANSMISSION removed.

Lock flywheel with special tool 11 9 590 .

Slacken bolts uniformly.

Unscrew bolts.

Remove pressure plate and clutch disc.

Clean flywheel and check for wear and damage.

If necessary, REPLACE FLYWHEEL .

Check clutch disc for damage and friction rust, replace if necessary.

Replace contaminated clutch disc (oil, cleaning agent etc.).

NOTE: Direction marking GEARBOX SIDE (1) for transmission side of clutch disc.

Check clutch disc for wear.

Measure lining protrusion on transmission side.

Measure from rivet head (1).

The clutch disc must be replaced if the lining protrusion at the rivet head (1) is less than 1 mm.

Install pressure plate and clutch disc with special tool.

N12, N16 with GS6-55BG: 21 2 290

N14 with GS6-53BG: 21 6 110

Replace bolts of pressure plate and tighten down in sequence (1-6).

Installation note:

Turn centering pin 21 2 290 (21 6 110) outward step by step when tightening the pressure plate. The discs must not be in contact with the centering pin.

Tightening torque 21 21 4AZ .

NOTE: Turn special tool 21 2 290 when tightening the pressure plate; doing this makes the clutch disc easier to center.
Remove special tool 11 9 590 .
Remove special tool 21 6 110.
