12 41 020 Removing and installing/replacing starter motor (N12)

Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Switch off ignition.
- Disconnect battery . See 12 00... INSTRUCTIONS FOR DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING BATTERY .
- Remove intake filter housing . See 13 71 000 REMOVING AND INSTALLING INTAKE FILTER HOUSING (N12) .
- N12: Remove tank venting valve . See 13 90 500 REPLACING TANK VENTING VALVE (N12) .
- Remove right WHEEL .
NOTE:
For purposes of clarity, the following work steps are shown on the engine after it has been removed.
N14 only:
Release bolts and lay vacuum tank (1) to one side.
Release screw.
Tightening torque 12 41 1AZ.
Unlock plug (1) and remove.
Release nut (2) and remove battery positive lead.
Tightening torque 12 41 2AZ.
Release screws.
Tightening torque 12 41 1AZ.
Remove bracket (3) and starter motor.
Installation:
Install starter and fit screws.
Press starter (1) in direction of arrow and tighten down.
