41 11 720 Replacing rear left side member (partial replacement, rear panel and side panel at rear left removed)

Refer to relevant service information in BODY, GENERAL .

Use only approved SPOT-WELDING APPARATUS  for repairs.

Remove or cover those vehicle components in the repair area which are susceptible to heat or dust.

Place vehicle on straightening bench.

The following new body parts are required:

Mark severance cut in accordance with dimension and cut.

Distance a = approx. 150 mm from cross-member, luggage compartment floor.

Cut through frame side member completely.

Open weld joints in areas (1).

Open weld joints in area (1).

Remove frame side member.

Preparation of new part: 

Mark severance cut (1) in accordance with body and cut.

Open weld joints in area (2).

Preparation of new part: 

Mark severance cut (1) in accordance with body and cut.

Installation: 

Weld in REINFORCING PANELS  at all severance cuts.

Installation: 

Adjust new parts (1 and 2) to fit in accordance with body and secure.

Weld new parts (1 and 2) to begin with and install as a composite unit.

Installation: 

Adjust new part to fit with straightening attachment or universal mount.
