11 12 105 Removing and installing left cylinder head (N62 to 9 / 03): Removal:

Removal of cylinder head is described separately from installation.

Remove inlet and exhaust adjustment unit on left side. Refer to 11 36 047 Removing and installing/replacing inlet and exhaust adjustment units on left side (N62) .

Rotate eccentric shaft at dihedral head as illustrated in order to reduce tension on torsion spring (1).

Pretension torsion spring (1) with a cable strap (2), feed out from roller (3) and carefully relieve tension.

Rotate eccentric shaft at dihedral head as shown in illustration back to minimum stroke position.

NOTE: Spring mount (1) has a locating pin opposite screw.

Release screw.

Feed spring mount (1) upwards out of locating pin.

NOTE: Illustration with engine removed.

Remove eccentric shaft sensor (2).

Detach guide rail from cylinder head.

Release screws between cylinder head and timing case cover.

NOTE: At narrow points, use a socket with 3/8" drive and a short extension.

Slacken off cylinder head bolts by one turn in sequence 10 ... 1.

Rotate eccentric shaft at dihedral head as shown in illustration and hold in this position.

Remove cylinder head bolt (7).

Rotate eccentric shaft at dihedral head as shown in illustration back to minimum stroke position.

Remove remaining cylinder head bolts.

Lift off cylinder head.

Lift off cylinder head gasket.
