17 11 100 Removing and installing or replacing coolant expansion tank
Integrated expansion tank
Only open sealing cover on expansion tank when engine has cooled down.
Drain off coolant down to lower edge of expansion tank only, refer to 17 00 005 DRAINING AND TOPPING UP COOLANT .
Release vent plug (1).
Release retaining screws (2).
Remove upper section.
Pull out expansion tank in upward direction.
Installation
Replace sealing rings.
M62
Remove cover from air cleaner. See 13 72 001 REPLACING AIR FILTER INSERT (M60, M62)
Unscrew and remove expansion tank cap.
Unscrew and completely remove vent screw.
Unscrew and remove splash guard.
Cars with automatic transmissions:
Turn hose plug (1) to left and detach towards bottom.
Cars with manual transmission:
Remove drain plug at bottom of radiator.
Drain off and catch coolant.
Recycling
Catch and dispose of drained coolant. Observe country-specific waste-disposal regulations.
Remove connector from level sensor.
Disconnect expansion hose.
Unclip retainer.
Pull expansion tank backwards and remove vent hose.
Pull out expansion tank in upward direction.
Installation
Expansion tank lugs must locate on radiator.
Fill system with recommended coolant, vent system and check for leaks,
refer to 17 00 039 BLEEDING COOLING SYSTEM AND CHECKING FOR WATER LEAKS .
