13 51 630 Replacing fuel pressure regulator (M62)
Follow instructions for checking fuel pressure, refer to NOTES ON FUEL PRESSURE CHECK (REFERENCE PRESSURE: ENVIRONMENT) and NOTES ON FUEL PRESSURE CHECK (REFERENCE PRESSURE: INTAKE MANIFOLD PRESSURE) .
- in injection pipe, rear
- in 3/2-way valve
- in fuel filter
The different installation locations are described below.
Fuel pressure regulator version 1:
- acoustic cover screwed down,
- acoustic cover with press-stud fasteners.
Acoustic cover screwed down.
Remove seal caps (1).
Unscrew nuts (2).
Remove acoustic cover.
Acoustic cover with press-stud fasteners.
Press press-stud fasteners (1.. 4) in succession and at same time raise acoustic cover slightly. Remove acoustic cover when all four press-stud fasteners have been unlocked.
Installation
- Position acoustic cover and press downwards until press-studs fasteners (1.. 4) click into place.
Installation location of fuel pressure regulator:
On the rear suction unit beside the electronics box.
Fuel pressure regulator shown here on removed engine.
Remove vacuum hose.
Remove circlip.
Note position of vacuum connection.
Turn fuel pressure regulator and pull out.
Installation
- Replace sealing rings (1 and 2).
Ensure sealing faces are clean.
Installation
- Allow lug on circlip to engage in recesses in injector tube.
Versions 2 and 3 of fuel pressure regulator:
E38: Front underbody cover on right side.
Release screws and clips.
Remove cover (1).
E39: Front underbody cover on left side.
Release screws (1).
Press cover (2) on underbody towards bottom.
Fuel pressure regulator version 2:
Fuel pressure regulator is integrated in 3/2-way valve.
Pull off vacuum hose (1).
Pull out locking bracket (2) in direction of arrow.
Remove fuel pressure regulator (3).
Fuel pressure regulator version 3:
Fuel pressure regulator is integrated in fuel filter.
Remove vacuum hose.
Pull out locking bracket (1) in direction of arrow.
Remove fuel pressure regulator (2).
Installation
- Replace O-rings on fuel pressure regulator (1).
- To aid installation, apply a thin coat of petroleum jelly to O-rings (1).
