11 62 060 Removing and installing/replacing exhaust manifold, left (M62 VANOS from 9/98)

(Cylinder bank 5-8)

Unscrew and remove splash guard.

Remove exhaust system. See 18 00 020 REMOVING AND INSTALLING COMPLETE EXHAUST SYSTEM (M62)

Remove left heat baffle plate.

Remove Lambda control sensor,

refer to 11 78 530 REPLACING LAMBDA CONTROL SENSOR, LEFT (M62) .

Press press-stud fasteners (1 to 4) in succession and simultaneously raise acoustic cover slightly; remove acoustic cover once all four press-stud fasteners have been unlocked.

Installation

Position acoustic cover and press downwards until press-stud fasteners (1 to 4) click into place.

Fit special tool 00 0 200 to special tool 00 0 201 / 202 / 204 / 208 and attach.

NOTE: The supports (1) of special tool 00 0 208 must make contact with the screws on the side walls.

CAUTION: Only suspend engine from suspension lugs provided for this purpose.

Attach special tool 00 0 200 to the front suspension lug.

Tighten the screws (1 and 2).

Release nut at top engine support on left side.

Installation

Replace nut.

Detach steering spindle from steering gear.

This task is described in the work step Removing and installing steering gear, refer to POWER RACK & PINION .

Raise engine with special tool 00 0 200 at front suspension lug max. 25 mm.

NOTE: With transmission removed, engine must also be raised on flywheel end approx. an additional 10 mm.

Release screw connection at exhaust manifold.

NOTE: Detach exhaust manifold from studs. Raise front exhaust manifold as high as possible and past end positions to steering gear and mating surface of hydraulic screw connection, feed out towards bottom.

Installation

Replace seals.

Beads of seals face the exhaust manifold.

Coat thread with copper paste -CRC-.

Replace nuts.

Tightening torque, refer to 11 62 1AZ in ENGINE - TIGHTENING TORQUES - 540i .
