Removal & Installation (540i)

  1. Draw hydraulic fluid out of tank. Do not re-use.
  2. Remove splash guard.
  3. Remove v-belt.
  4. Remove lines on the vane pump. Line (1) goes to steering unit and line (2) to the container. See Fig 1.
  5. Unfasten nut (3). See Fig 2.
  6. Unfasten mount on oil pan and remove pump. See Fig 3.
  7. To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten oil pan mounting to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  8. Secure support (1) to pump. See Fig 2. Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  9. Install nut (2) hand tight against engine support. Tighten nut (3). Tighten both to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  10. Replace seals and tighten lines to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  11. Bleed hydraulic system. See BLEEDING POWER STEERING SYSTEM .
