Installation (M5)

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 9 other vehicles, including the 2002 BMW M5, 2002 BMW 540i, 2001 BMW M5, 2001 BMW 540i, and 2000 BMW M5. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

To install, tighten in the following sequence:

  1. Tighten new 8 x 22 mm hexagon screw at rear of timing case cover until hand tight.
  2. Screw new hexagon nut onto retaining plate at front and tighten initially.
  3. Tighten new 8 x 25 mm hexagon screw at front of retaining plate until hand tight.
  4. Tighten rear hexagon screw to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  5. Tighten hexagon nut to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  6. Tighten front hexagon screw to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  7. Release hexagon nut and screws in same sequence by 90° and retighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  8. Replace seals on lines and tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  9. After assembly, bleed the power steering system. See BLEEDING POWER STEERING SYSTEM .
