Checking Power Steering

  1. Limit steering lock 1/2 - 3/4 steering wheel turns before reaching the left limit stop (wood etc.). See Fig 1.
  2. Open valve (B).
  3. Close valve (A).
  4. Start engine.
  5. Pull steering wheel with special tool (64 1 100) at 22.5 Lbs. (100 N) for approximately 5 seconds against left lock and read off pressure. See Fig 2.
  6. Limit right stop and measure at right limit position.
  7. Replace steering gear if the pressures are below the previously determined pump pressure.
  8. Remove special tool (32 4 000) and replace sealing rings on banjo bolts. Tighten lines to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  9. Bleed hydraulic system. See BLEEDING POWER STEERING SYSTEM .
