Steering Gear: Installation

  1. To install, reverse removal procedure. Replace self-locking nuts and tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  2. Set steering gear to straight ahead position (marking on case). Turn steering spindle until bolt (1) of upper universal joint is vertical. Place lower universal joint on steering gear. Bolt must be located in groove of steering gear spindle. See Fig 1. Replace self-locking nut and tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  3. Replace self-locking nuts on tie rod and tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  4. After assembly, align front axle. See SPECIFICATIONS & PROCEDURES .
