54 31 060 Removing and installing/replacing left or right convertible top catch (mechanical)

Necessary preliminary tasks:

Remove convertible top fabric from 1st bow. See 54 34 120 Replacing convertible top fabric .

Remove cover (1 or 2) upwards.

Loosen screws (1).

Tightening torque, see 54 31 15AZ in SLIDE/TILT ROOF AND CONVERTIBLE TOP - TIGHTENING TORQUES .

Releasing actuating rod (2):

Slide retainer spring (3) to end of rod.
Detach actuating rod from ball end.

Installation:

Basic adjustment is necessary in event of replacement:

Install both catches and turn cross.
Move safety catch (1) into closed position.
Check dimension A = 78.5+/-0.5 mm.
The dimension can be altered by turning the ball socket (2):
- Screw in = dimension A is reduced
- Screw out = dimension A is increased
