Removal & Installation (From 3/99)

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 42 other vehicles, including the 2003 BMW 530i, 2003 BMW 525i, 2002 BMW M5, 2002 BMW 540i, and 2002 BMW 530i. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

CAUTION: AIRBAG unit must be placed with padded cushion facing upward.

Pull off plug (1 & 2). See Fig 1.
Remove AIRBAG unit. See AIR BAG CONTROL UNIT .
Move steering wheel/wheels to straight ahead position. Release screw and remove steering wheel. See Fig 2.
To install, reverse removal procedure. Ensure wheels are in straight ahead position. Fit steering wheel. Markings on steering wheel and steering spindle must match up. See Fig 3.
Retaining pins (1) must snap into place in recesses (2). See Fig 4.
Install steering wheel screw and tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
