NOTE: For the E39, a choice is offered: normal mirror glass or mirror glass with automatic dip action (electro-chrome technology). The removal operation varies depending on version of mirror (risk of damage).

Rearview mirror without automatic anti-glare control:

The mirror glass does not have a plastic frame.

CAUTION: Bring car to room temperature so that clips do not break off.

Tilt mirror glass.

Tape off mirror glass and housing edge (risk of damage).

Unclip mirror glass with special tool 00 9 318 (universal wedge).

If necessary, disconnect plug connection for mirror heating and remove mirror glass.

Installation:

Place mirror glass with retainers onto lugs and clip mirror glass into place. Ensure correct engagement.

Check function.

Rearview mirror with automatic anti-glare control:

CAUTION: Risk of injury in event of broken mirror glass.
Therefore wear protective gloves and clean all parts with water.

Slide gudgeon to right (bayonet lock) and carefully lift off mirror glass.

If necessary, disconnect plug connection (1) for mirror heating. Unlock plug (2) and detach.

Installation:

Place mirror glass with openings onto lugs.

Slide gudgeon to left until it is vertical. Check function.
