Special tools required:

Unscrew and remove splash guard.

WARNING: Scalding hazard!
Only perform this work after engine has cooled down.

Support exhaust system with special tool 31 2 220.

NOTE: Weight of exhaust system is approx. 40 kg.

Detach suspension on catalytic converters at rear from body.

Release screw connection (1) of flanges on exhaust manifold.

Remove flange element (2).

NOTE: Shown on E46.

Installation:

Replace gaskets.

Replace self-locking nuts.

Coat thread with copper paste - CRC.

Release hexagon nuts and hexagon screws. Remove exhaust carrier.

Installation:

After complete installation of exhaust system, align exhaust carrier so that it is free from tension.

Release screw connection of bracket for center muffler on body.

WARNING: Risk of injury!
Removal of exhaust system must be carried out with assistance of a second person.

NOTE: Weight of exhaust system is approx. 40 kg.

Release screw connection of bracket for rear muffler on body. Remove complete exhaust system.

If necessary, remove vibration damper (1) and fit on new rear muffler.
