Wheel Bearing: Installation

CAUTION:
Do not use a bearing unit again once it has been removed.
CAUTION:
The press-fit surfaces must be clean and free from oil and grease.
NOTE:
Wider chamfer of bearing must point to swivel bearing. See Fig 1.
- Coat bearing seat in swivel bearing over 50 percent of its length with Loctite 648 or equivalent.
- On bearing with inside diameter 45 mm, draw in bearing with special tools (31 2 113) and (33 3 261/264/268). See Fig 2.
- On bearing with inside diameter of 49 mm, draw in bearing with special tools (22 1 011, 31 2 113, and 33 3 261). Position special tool (33 4 262) with bevel to bearing. See Fig 3.
- Replace circlip (1). Ensure ring is correctly seated. It should snap into place. See Figure.
- On 45 mm bearing inside diameter, place special tool (33 3 266) with larger diameter on bearing and draw in drive flange with special tools (31 2 113) and (33 3 261/268). See Fig 4.
- On 49 mm bearing inside diameter, place special tool (33 3 263) with larger diameter on bearing and draw in drive flange with special tools (31 2 113) and (33 3 261/268). See Fig 5.
- Install swivel bearing. See SWIVEL BEARING .
