Swivel Bearing: Installation

- Install new wheel bearing in swivel bearing. See WHEEL BEARING .
- Install swivel bearing on spring strut and tighten nuts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Lightly oil axle shaft splines and insert into drive flange splines. Screw on special tool (33 2 118). See Fig 1.
- Screw on special tool (33 2 116) with 5 wheel lug bolts (1). Install axle shaft with special tool (33 2 115), gripping with tire iron in so doing. See Fig 2.
- Install control arm. Ensure tapered spigot and bore are both free of grease. Replace self-locking nut and tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install guide joint and tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Press on tie rod. Ensure spigot and bore are free of grease. Brace on hexagon socket if necessary. Replace self-locking nut and tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install brake disc and ABS pulse sensor.
- Replace collar nut on axle shaft. Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Lock collar nut by caulking at flat areas of axle shaft. See Figure.
- Check and adjust front wheel alignment. See WHEEL ALIGNMENT SPECIFICATIONS & PROCEDURES under ADJUSTMENTS.
CAUTION:
If guide joint has been driven out with special tool, it must be replaced. See GUIDE JOINT .
