Coil Spring & Shock Absorber: Installation

- Place coil spring in spring holders. End of spring must be flush with end of spring holder. See Fig 1.
- Replace auxiliary spring (1) if necessary. Check spring plate (2) and spring pad (3). Check gaiter. Make sure spring pad is correctly seated on spring plate. See Fig 2.
- Insert spring strut shock absorber into coil spring and upper spring plate.
- Replace self-locking nut (1) and screw onto piston rod so that it is flush. Coil spring must fit positively in lower spring plate/spring pad. See Fig 3.
- Tighten self-locking nut with special tool (31 2 210). If necessary, grip piston rod. See Fig 3. Tighten nut to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Release tension on coil spring until it is fully resting in lower spring plates.
- Installation is reverse of removal. Replace self-locking nuts. Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install front wheel and tighten wheel lug bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
CAUTION:
Special tool must under no circumstances be extended to such an extant that spring retainers make contact with top and bottom spring coils. This may cause damage to special tool and/or spring.
