Removal & Installation

Remove tension strut. See TENSION STRUTS .
With a press and special tool (31 2 271/272), press rubber mount in and out of tension strut. See Fig 1.
Ensure rubber mount and tension strut bore are free of grease. Marking on rubber mount points towards marking on the tension strut. Maximum torsional tolerance is within 3 degrees. See Fig 2.
Protrusion (A) on each side should be equally large. See Fig 3.
Check alignment of front axle. See WHEEL ALIGNMENT SPECIFICATIONS & PROCEDURES under ADJUSTMENTS & INSPECTION.
