Front Suspension Assembly: Removal

- Lock steering wheel in straight ahead position.
- Draw off hydraulic fluid for power steering from tank. Do not re-use. Observe waste disposal regulations.
- Raise and support vehicle.
- Remove engine splash shield.
- Remove wheel assemblies.
- Remove brake calipers and suspend with wire. Disconnect electrical harness from ABS pulse sensors.
- Attach Engine Sling (00 0 200) to attachments (00 0 201/202/204 and 206), and support engine. See Fig 1 .
- Remove left and right engine mount retaining nuts.
- Remove bolt and separate steering shaft universal joint from steering gear.
- Disconnect power steering hoses from steering gear and plug openings.
- Remove screw above stabilizer bar on left and right sides. See Fig 2 .
- Remove screws and remove panel. See Fig 3 .
- Withdraw pin (1), pull out expansion rivet (2) and remove panel. See Fig 4 .
- Unfasten hydraulic line holders. Disconnect hydraulic lines from front axle support. Disconnect harness connector from ride level sensor.
- Using a floor jack, support front axle carrier. Remove axle carrier bolts from left and right sides.
- Remove 3 nuts from each shock tower.
- Carefully lower front suspension assembly. DO NOT permit strut assemblies to tilt or hang outward. Each spring strut must be held by an individual person during this procedure.
CAUTION:
It is very easy for paint damage to occur when special tool (00 0 200) is attached.
WARNING:
Release screw connections of front axle support from vehicle side. There must be no personnel under the front axle.
