65 99 ... Troubleshooting for Bavaria radios

TROUBLESHOOTING CHART

Condition Cause Remedy
Scale light on, but no sound or noise in speakers with loudness set at maximum. Automatic tuning works perfectly.
  1. Speaker connector on radio loose.
  2. Break in speaker wiring.
  3. Connectors on fade control loose.
  4. Speakers defective.
  5. Radio defective.
  1. Tighten connector.
  2. Replace wiring.
  3. Tighten plug-in connections.
  4. Replace speakers.
  5. Replace radio.
Noise with loudness set at maximum, but no reception.
  1. Aerial connector not connected to radio.
  2. Break in aerial wiring.
  3. Aerial.
  4. Radio defective.
  1. Connect connector.
  2. Replace wiring.
  3. refer during "antenna check".
  4. Replace radio.
Loud noise while driving.
  1. Aerial wiring and connector.
  2. Aerial.
  3. Local reception range was abandoned.
  4. Station key or station tuned in incorrectly.
  5. Station too weak.
  6. Radio set to sound-off for traffic reports.
  1. Check, replace or tighten if necessary.
  2. refer during "antenna check".
  3. Tune in new station.
  4. Tune in station.
  5. Tune in stronger station.
  6. Unset sound-off and tune in station correct.
Condition. Cause. Remedy
Unsatifactory sound quality.
  1. Foreign particles in speaker diaphragm or diaphragm damaged.
  2. Speaker installed with tension.
  3. All speakers are not connected identically when using more than one speaker per channel.
  4. Fade control not in middle position.
  5. Only when cassette player is used.
  1. Remove foreign particles or replace speaker.
  2. Loosen and screw on speaker without tension.
  3. Check for identical poles.
  4. Adjust fade control to middle position.
  5. Clean the cassette drive using the cleaning cassette.
Cassette ejected while playing.
  1. Cassette without SM mechanism.
  2. Cassette tape unwinds too hard.
  3. Cassette housing distorted.
  4. C 90 or C 120 cassette used.
  1. b) Run cassette forwards and backwards completely once.
  2. c) Use a different cassette.
  3. d) These cassettes have very thin tape and tend very quickly to unwind to hard; for this reason, only use C 60 cassettes.
TROUBLESHOOTING CHART

Condition Cause Remedy
Crackling and sizzling noise. Engine or ignition interference. Tune in a weak station.
Run engine up to approx. 5,000 rpm, then switch off ignition. Radio must maintain reception. If interference noise stops by switching off the ignition, it concerns ignition interference.
Checking.
Distributor cap shielding.
Earth strap for shielding connected.
Shielded capacitor 2.2°F on ignition coil on terminal (15).
Caution!
Not for thyristor ignition.
Suppressor filter in line 1.
Check ignition cable - spark plug connector / distributor cap / ignition coil for perfect connections and
resistance. Refer to 12 13 IGNITION COIL E36 .
Hairline cracks in distributor cap, distributor rotor, ignition coil neck, spark plugs, plug connectors.
Earth strap from engine to body.
Earth strap from engine hood to body.
Earth connection of radio.
Engine hood closed correctly.
Condition  Cause  Remedy 
Crackling and clicking noise. Defective alternator regulator. Race engine enough until interference noise can be clearly heard. Now switch on headlights and rear window defogger. The regulator is defective if the interference noise stops or changes.
Howling or whistling noise, depending on engine speed. Interference from alternator. Remove drive belts and run engine briefly. If this produces interference, replace or service install capacitor on terminal (+) of alternator.
Sizzling and clicking noise only while driving, but stops after operating brake pedal. Electrostatic charge. Install wheel hub contacts on front axle.
Howling and crackling noise when equipment is switched on. Windshield wiper motor, additional water pump, additional fan. Installing suppressor filter 2 x 0.47 mF.
Scale lighting not lit or no monitor display and no reception.
  1. Fuse blown.
  2. Power supply wire loose or not connected.
  3. Radio defective.
  1. Replace fuse.
  2. Connect wire.
  3. Replace radio
