54 31 030 Removing and installing/replacing roof liner in convertible top (Z3 Roadster)

Open convertible top.

Unfasten screws (1).

Remove securing rail (2) from plastic retainer.

Installation:

Edges of securing rail (2) must be located under convertible top seal (window guide).

Pull convertible top seal (1) out of securing rail.

NOTE: Before releasing screws (1), make a note of the number of shims (2) (if fitted) since they must be reinstalled in the same positions (wind noises, leaks).

Remove screws (1 and 2). Remove securing rail of convertible top seal.

Installation:

Mark screw positions so that the securing rail can be installed in the same position.

NOTE: Do not release the screw for the closure base plate, otherwise the setting will be altered.

Release screws (1) on plastic retainer (2) and fold out lug (3).

NOTE: Securing rail is disassembled.

Detach cover from adhesive fastening on plastic retainer.

Raise convertible top out of convertible top compartment.

Installation:

Stick on cover with double-sided adhesive tape, e.g. Tesafix 4965, to plastic retainer at front.

Drill out rivets (1) on B-pillar mounting.

Drill out rubber band mounting (2).

NOTE: Drill carefully so as not to damage convertible top cover.

Installation:

Only steel rivets (1) may be used.

Drill out rivets (1) and (2) from plastic deflector (3) on left/right.

Installation:

Rivet down spring part of mount on front rivet (1) under plastic deflector.

Only steel rivets (1 + 2) may be used.

Release expansion rivets (1) on rear retainer (convertible top frame).

NOTE: Roof liner must not be damaged.

Installation:

Replace expansion rivets.

Insert expansion rivet for locating hole (1) first.

Locating hole (1) = round hole in wire bracket = 3rd hole from right

Mark side position of shell crossrail (1).

Drill out any locating rivets if necessary.

Unclip shell crossrail.

Installation:

Align shell crossrail on marking so that roof liner does not have any folds.

Only steel rivets may be used.

Mark side position of shell crossrail (1), then unclip.

Installation:

Align shell crossrail on marking so that roof liner does not have any folds.

Release screw (1) of spacer on left/right.

NOTE: A mount can also be riveted down instead of a spacer.

Drill out rivets (1) on cowl on left/right.

Release screws (2) on center of cowl.

Pull out roof liner towards rear.

Installation:

Only aluminum rivets (1) may be used.
