Construction

2 Hall sensors are fitted in the insert compartment for the remote control. The Hall sensors are contact-free and detect whether there is a remote control in the insert compartment. The insert compartment also houses the ring antenna for checking the transponder in the remote control.

The STAT-STOP button is located above the insert compartment. Each component is installed isolated from the other. A 14-pin connector connects the insert compartment to the CAS control unit. A 10-pin ribbon cable connects the insert compartment to the START/STOP button.

How it works

Once the remote control has been inserted into the insert compartment, the transponder authorization is read out. When the CAS detects an authorized remote control, terminal R is switched on. At the same time, the remote control is locked in place in the insert compartment. The safety catch is locked by means of a solenoid switch. The locked remote control is a condition for the terminals to be switched (terminal R, terminal 15 with engine ON/OFF)

A withdrawal lock prevents the remote control from being removed under the following conditions:

The engine start is initiated when the START/STOP button is pressed. The CAS control unit checks that the following preconditions are satisfied:

When all conditions are satisfied, the engine is started by the CAS control unit. To switch the engine off, press the START/STOP button again. The engine is switched off, terminal R remains switched on. On vehicles with automatic transmission, the engine can only be switched off when the vehicle is stationary and the parking lock has been engaged.

This fully electronic access to the vehicle has the following advantages:

Emergency function when driving

For safety reasons, the engine can be stopped when the vehicle is in motion by pressing the START/STOP button. In such cases, it can be restarted without having to apply the brake or depress the clutch again.

Engine starting with Comfort Access

With Comfort Access, the remote control does not have be in the insert compartment for the engine to be started.
