Replacing the Piezo injectors on the engines N63, S63

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 45 other vehicles, including the 2016 BMW M5, 2016 BMW 550i xDrive, 2016 BMW 550i, 2016 BMW 535i xDrive, and 2016 BMW 535i. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Not N63 1. revision and S63 1. revision. These engines have solenoid valve injectors.

The piezo injectors were modified and received the index 11.

Definition of cylinder bank!

The term cylinder bank (also called bank) designates on the one hand the geometric layout of the cylinders, and on the other hand, the functional allocation of the cylinders to groups with a joint oxygen sensor emissions control (mixture preparation) or joint charge (a turbocharger pro cylinder bank).

For the N63, there is no difference between geometry and function.

N63 Functional and geometric:

Cylinder bank 1 cylinders 1, 2, 3, 4 and cylinder bank 2 cylinders 5, 6, 7, 8

For the S63, the functional allocation of the cylinders to a cylinder bank deviating to a geometric layout of the cylinder bank was selected for the optimization of performance:

S63 Functional:

Cylinder bank 1 cylinders 1, 6, 4, 7 and cylinder bank 2 cylinders 2, 8, 3, 5

The functional division of the cylinder bank for the S63 frequently requires a higher effort than for the N63, since among others both intake silencer housings must be disassembled in order to e.g. reach all the injectors of (functional) a cylinder bank.
