The electric auxiliary water pump is included in the main cooling circuit in addition to the mechanical coolant pump. The electric auxiliary water pump is responsible for cooling the exhaust turbocharger. The electric auxiliary water pump is based on the principle of the centrifugal pump and designed to delivery coolant.

The Digital Motor Electronics (DME) control this electric auxiliary water pump through a control line as needed.

The electric auxiliary water pump can be operated with voltages from 9 to 16 volts, whereby the nominal voltage is 12 V. The approved temperatures for the cooling medium fluctuate between -40 °Celsius and 135 °Celsius.
