51 16 000 Removing and installing/replacing mirror on left or right front door (security)

Necessary preliminary tasks: 

• Remove door trim panel. See TRIM PANEL (UP TO 03/2007)  or TRIM PANEL (LONG VERSION OR FROM 03/2007) .

Pull off speaker (1) towards front and disconnect.

Disconnect plug-in connections (1) and (4).

Release screws (2).

Remove protective cover (1).

Feed out cable with mirror and remove.

Fabric adhesive tape (3)

Installation: 

Tightening torque: see 1AZ in 51 16 MIRRORS, FINISHERS, ASHTRAYS, CONSOLES

Replacement only: 

Due to the thread-tapping screws, the tightening torque of the new mirror is increased by 2 Nm.

When replacing molded foam section: 

Cut bead (1) and corner edge (2) with universal knife (see next two work steps).

Installation: 

Following parts of mirror must not be damaged or missing:

• Fabric adhesive tape on protective cover
• Seal on mirror base plate
• Sound insulation in front door

Carry out function check of mirror and intercom system.
