11 51 000 Removing and installing/renewing coolant pump (N20, N26)

WARNING: Risk of scalding!
Only perform this work after engine has cooled down.

IMPORTANT: If a coolant pump that has already been operated is reused, it must be filled with coolant after removal.
Mixture ratio, water: coolant = 1: 1
Protect plug connections against coolant and contamination.

Recycling:

Catch and dispose of drained coolant in a suitable collecting vessel.

Observe country-specific waste disposal regulations.

Installation note:

All screws, nuts, bolts and hose clamps removed during the repair must be replaced.
Retaining elements on chassis and suspension and steering parts must be replaced.

Necessary preliminary tasks:

Follow diagnosis instruction.
Drain COOLANT .
NOTES cooling system.
Secure ENGINE IN INSTALLATION POSITION .

Release screws (1) and remove cover (2) (if installed).

Slightly raise engine to gain better accessibility to coolant pump screws.

Release screws (1) on the bottom of the coolant pump.

Tightening torque: 11 51 2AZ .

Loosen hose clamps (1).

Installation note:

Note the installation position of the hose clamps.

Tightening torque: 11 51 3AZ .

Release coolant hoses (1) and (2).

Unlock plug (4) and remove.

Release screw (3).

Tightening torque: 11 51 2AZ .

Remove coolant pump (5).

Follow assembly instructions:

Installation note:

Hose clamps (1) must be installed in the center of the marked area.

Installation note:

Attach coolant pump with screw (1).

Connector (2) must snap audibly into place.

Installation note:

If the electric coolant pump is reused, it must be rotated one turn due to the breakaway torque at the impeller.

Assemble engine.

BLEEDING INSTRUCTIONS must be observed without fail.
