28 00 060 Replacing output flange shaft seal (GS7 D36 SG)

Special tools required: 

• 23 0 020
• 23 0 410
• 23 2 320
• 24 2 351
• 24 2 352
• 24 2 353
• 33 1 150
• 33 1 154

Necessary preliminary tasks: 

• Remove EXHAUST SYSTEM .
• Remove heat shields.
• SUPPORT TRANSMISSION FROM UNDERNEATH .
• REMOVE TRANSMISSION CROSS MEMBER .
• Partially remove PROPELLER SHAFT .
  • Disconnect propeller shaft at transmission.
  • Release center mount.
  • Tie up propeller shaft to underbody.
    NOTE: Bending the propeller shaft by an excessive angle can cause premature damage to the joint/propeller shaft!
• Support engine with lifter when removing transmission.
• To rotate propeller shaft, unlock PARKING LOCK .

Release screws.

Tightening torque: 22 32 1AZ .

Remove transmission bearing block (1).

Grip output flange (1) with special tool 23 0 020 .

Release nut with special tool 23 2 320 .

Tightening torque: Pretension 175 Nm, Release, Tighten Down 125 Nm.

Installation note: 

Replace nut and secure with Loctite 243.

Detach output flange (1) with special tool 33 1 150 and adapter plate 33 1 154 from output shaft.

Attach special tool 24 2 353 to output shaft (1).

Screw in special tool 24 2 351 until it is firmly connected with radial shaft seal.

Pull out radial shaft seal by screwing in special tool 24 2 352 .

Oil sealing lip on radial shaft seal (1). Drive in radial shaft seal (1) with special tool 23 0 410 as far as it will go.
