12 42 510 Replacing battery positive lead (between starter motor and B+ support point) (M54)

Necessary preliminary tasks:

Read fault memory.
Switch off ignition.
Disconnect battery negative lead from battery and lay to one side.
Follow instructions for Disconnecting And Connecting Battery .
Remove lower section of microfilter housing on left. See CABIN AIR FILTER .

NOTE:

For a better overview, this work step is shown from below. All the tasks can be performed from above.

Unscrew nut (1).

Installation:

Tightening torque, see 12 41 4AZ and 12 12 1AZ in ENGINE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM - TIGHTENING TORQUES .

Disconnect battery positive lead (2) from starter motor.

Unscrew bolt (1).

Unclip battery positive lead (2) from holder on tension strut (3).

Unscrew nut (4).

Detach battery positive lead (2) from support point and remove.

NOTE:

Read out fault memory of DME control unit
Check stored faults
Rectify faults
Clear fault memory
