NOTE: Carry out wheel alignment with DIN vehicle load only:
  • If the technical prerequisites for measurement with ride height input are not fulfilled.
  • If the vehicle in question is a damaged vehicle.

Preprocesses 

  1. Preliminary work before wheel alignment 
    • On vehicles with rear axle slip angle control: Run the "Move HSR actuator to center position" service function.
    • Drive the motor vehicle onto the axle alignment test stand so the front wheels and rear wheels are positioned in the center of the rotating/sliding plates.

      TECHNICAL INFORMATION 

      Please observe the regulations of the various equipment manufacturers. Use only quick connectors with poly control pins (1). Due to excessive measuring inaccuracy, other quick-clamping units are not permitted!

    • Position pickups/ride height markers on the vehicle.
    • Enter customer and vehicle data.
    • Identify chassis version and select vehicle.

      If the spring strut does not feature a label to identify the suspension, the type of chassis and suspension can be identified by the part number in the BMW Electronic Parts Catalogue.

    • Enter tire pressure and tread depth.
    • Remove locking pins from both rotating and sliding plates.
    • Install brake tensioner.

  2. Moving vehicle into normal position 
    • In vehicles with air suspension systems: run ride height adjustment with BMW diagnosis system.
    • Check vehicle interior and luggage compartment (including spare wheel well) for load status, if applicable, unload motor vehicle
    • Install the DIN vehicle load

  3. Moving vehicle into design position 
    • Add/distribute weights around the spring struts until the vehicle ride height is within the tolerance (refer to Technical Data ).
      TECHNICAL DATA SPECIFICATION

      Difference between left and right 
      max. 2 mm
    • Measuring the vehicle ride height (A):(1) Attach the tape measure to the bottom rim flange (2) and measure the distance to the lower wheel arch edge.

    Key processes 

  4. Carry out wheel alignment 
    • Perform input alignment in accordance with equipment manufacturer's instructions.
    • If necessary, adjust front axle and rear axle.
    • Perform output alignment in accordance with equipment manufacturer's instructions.
    • Save and print out test record.

    Post processes 

  5. Removing the wheel alignment system 
    • Insert locking pins into both rotary and sliding plates.
    • Remove pickups/ride height markers.
    • Remove weights from the motor vehicle.
