51 45 031 Replacing instrument panel trim

Special tools required: 

When working on trim panel components, make sure that visible surfaces are not scratched or damaged (e.g. by sharp-edged tools).

Necessary preliminary tasks: 

NOTE: Struts (2) left and right left from production must be removed from new instrument panel trim (1). Separation occurs at marked points of instrument panel trim (1).

Release screws (2) on center function carrier (1).

Pull out function carrier center (1) toward to the front.

Release screws (1) from CID back cover (2) and remove CID back cover (2).

Detach the defrost outlet (1) with special tool 00 9 325 from the instrument panel trim (2).

Detach and remove the defrost outlet (1) further from left to right from the instrument panel trim (2).

Installation note: 

Clamps (3) and securing eyes (4) on the defrost outlet (1) may not be damaged or missing. Ensure correct installation of defrost outlet (1).

Release screws (2) from the dashboard cover (1) and remove instrument cover (1).

Release screws (1) from the left dashboard cover (2) and remove instrument cover (2).

Release screws (1) from the right dashboard cover (2) and remove instrument cover (2).

Unclip left air duct (2) and remove from instrument panel cover (1).

Unclip right air duct (3) and remove from instrument panel cover (1).

Remove AIRBAG MODULE ON PASSENGER SIDE (4).

Remove all retaining clips (2) from the instrument panel trim (1).

If necessary, replace RESILIENT SEALING TAPE  for VIN number inspection window.
