Special tools required:
Rear spoiler is secured to tailgate with double-sided adhesive tape and window glass adhesive.
The following notes must be complied with:
- Notes for COMPONENT BONDING WITH DOUBLE-SIDED ADHESIVE TAPE
- Notes on WINDOW BONDING REPAIR KIT
Do not install rear spoiler with poor accuracy of fit. A loosely placed rear spoiler may not protrude, especially at the corners. Check accuracy of fit before bonding.
The following CONSUMABLES and tools are needed:
| Cleaning agent R2 | CARTRIDGE GUN |
| Yellow plastic adhesive tape | WIRE PULL HANDLES |
| Cutting cord | WINDOW GLASS ADHESIVE 300 ML |
| Eraser disk |
Remove rear spoiler:
Cut through bonding surface of rear spoiler (1) with cutting cord (2) and wire pulling handles (3).
Cut back residual adhesive bead of tailgate and rear spoiler (1) with pinchweld scraper to approx. 0.5 mm.
Do not damage paintwork on tailgate.
Remove the remainder of the double-sided adhesive tape with an ERASER DISK .
Prepare rear spoiler:
Clean rear spoiler in adhesive area.
Apply double-sided adhesive tape (1) to rear spoiler (distance to spoiler outer edge approx. 1 mm).
On the middle adhesive tapes (1), the tabs (3) also need to be attached.
The adhesion of the adhesive tape builds up significantly via the contact pressure. Therefore, press thumbs or fingers over the entire area.
Place tabs (2) of liner* outwards, if necessary secure to outer side of rear spoiler.
* Liner is the protective film for the bonding surface.
If possible, wait for approximately 2 hours before installing the rear spoiler.
Determine the attachment position of the rear spoiler:
Place rear spoiler (1) on tailgate.
Longitudinal position is defined by the tailgate contour.
Align rear spoiler (1) to tailgate, dimension (X and Y) must be the same on the left and right.
Mark position of rear spoiler (1) on the left and right with adhesive tape (2).
Clean tailgate in adhesive area.
Prepare nozzle:
Trim nozzle for adhesive outlet A = 5 mm.
Apply adhesive beads (1) dia. 5 mm onto rear spoiler in accordance with dimension (A to C).
| A | approx. 40 mm | measured from center mark (2) |
| B | approx. 300 mm | length of adhesive beads (1) |
| C | 10 mm | Distance of adhesive beads (1) to rear spoiler outer edge |
Install the rear spoiler:
Perform the following repair work with a second person to give assistance.
Align rear spoiler (1) to adhesive tapes (2).
Carefully pull out liner (3) and stick rear spoiler (1) to tailgate. Make sure the position of the rear spoiler (1) is correct when pulling out the liner (3).
Press down with force on the rear spoiler (1), using the special tool 51 0 300 , over the entire bonding surface of the double-sided adhesive tape, in particular at the edges.
In the area of the window glass adhesive make sure that no adhesive enters the visible area when pressing down. If necessary, remove adhesive that has emerged.
Fix rear spoiler in position with yellow plastic adhesive tape.
Adhere to a minimum hardening time of 2 hours. Final strength is reached after approx. 16 to 24 hours.
