32 00 155 Kinematics Diagnosis System wheel alignment with ride height measurement without loading the vehicle
WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 33 other vehicles, including the 2018 BMW M6, 2018 BMW 650i xDrive, 2018 BMW 650i, 2018 BMW 640i xDrive, and 2018 BMW 640i. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
Overview of Activities
Preprocesses
- Preliminary work before wheel alignment
- Measuring vehicle ride height
Keyprocesses
- Carry out wheel alignment
Postprocesses
- Removing the wheel alignment system
Additional Information
Prerequisite
- Only BMW approved wheel and tire combinations are installed on the vehicle.
- Correct tread depth. The tread depth for each axle may differ from left to right by max. 1-2 mm.
- Correct tire pressure (see label on vehicle).
- All chassis and suspension components must be technically OK.
- Condition of suspension and shock absorbers OK: Visually inspect for breakage, etc.
- In vehicles with air suspension, pull fuse of air supply system so that there is no controlling down or up.
safety instructions
NOTE:
Do not perform wheel alignment without loading the vehicle:
- If the technical prerequisites for measurement with ride height input are not fulfilled.
- If the vehicle in question is a damaged vehicle.
Preprocesses
- Preliminary work before wheel alignment
- On vehicles with rear axle slip angle control: Run the "Move HSR actuator to center position" service function.
- Drive the motor vehicle onto the axle alignment test stand so the front wheels and rear wheels are positioned in the center of the rotating/sliding plates.
TECHNICAL INFORMATION
Please observe the regulations of the various equipment manufacturers. Use only quick connectors with poly control pins (1). Due to excessive measuring inaccuracy, other quick-clamping units are not permitted!
- Position pickups/ride height markers on the vehicle.
- Enter customer and vehicle data.
- Identify chassis version and select vehicle.
- Enter tire pressure and tread depth.
- Remove locking pins from both rotating and sliding plates.
- Install brake tensioner.
- Measuring vehicle ride height
TECHNICAL INFORMATION
If the ride height is outside the tolerance range (+40/-20 mm), load/unload the vehicle correspondingly to adjust the vehicle in this ride height range.
- Determine the actual ride height (A): For this purpose, attach the tape measure centrally on the rim flange (2) and measure towards the wheel arch lower edge (1).
Keyprocesses
- Carry out wheel alignment
- Perform input alignment in accordance with equipment manufacturer's instructions.
- If necessary, adjust front axle and rear axle.
- Perform output alignment in accordance with equipment manufacturer's instructions.
- Save and print out test record.
Postprocesses
- Removing the wheel alignment system
- Insert locking pins into both rotary and sliding plates.
- Remove pickups/ride height markers.
- Remove weights from the motor vehicle.
